About Me

My photo
Welcome to Sunday's Nectar. Flourishing from a passion for the design world, as a teacher, I am touching upon my creative side to bring a piece of this passion to you every Sunday. Please sit, read and absorb. A quote that my Mom shared years ago is my inspiration... "Legends say that hummingbirds float free of time, carrying our hopes for love, joy and celebration. The hummingbird's delicate grace reminds us that life is rich, beauty is everywhere, every personal connection has a meaning and that laughter is life's sweetest creation." Enjoy Sunday's Nectar and set your inner hummingbird free.

Birks!

Since our lives, nature and the heavens revolve in a cyclic motion....fashion must follow suit! Birkenstocks have been in and out of style (or on the fringes of it) for almost 250 years now.  I was browsing one of my favorite sites for some trendy ideas and look what I found! However, as I am aging, I have found that I am getting a bit wiser. Although cheap things seem to be immediately satisfying, I have found that saving those extra $$ for the real thing is worth it--especially for those essential items (like sandals that you can wear summer after summer).  So, below I have included what I found on Forever 21, but also some ideas from Birkenstock to get your toes comfortably ready for summatime! Please note that the captions for the pictures (on every entry) are links to the website to purchase these awesome goods! Enjoy. Happy Easter/Passover/Pink Moon!

Crystals

Keeping this one short and sweet....I've taken to crystals in the past few months. I received a beautiful Amethyst chunk as a birthday present two years ago. I haven't thought much about it, just kept it near my bed to calm me before sleep. A good friend (who also made the necklaces below) truly convinced me with saying "how can you not be into crystals?! They grow from the earth...they must have healing powers!!". I'm sold-- here are a few of the necklaces she has recently crafted. I will add more later....enjoy and start crystaling!

Here's her site....contact Angela for a necklace!

Feathers

Feathers...on earrings, necklaces, and even tied into hair have been in high fashion for a couple years now.  However, when I read an article about how these feathers were sourced, I stopped buying them.  To make a long story short, there are farms out there who's sole purpose is feathers.  For a while these farms would supply the feathers for craft stores and fishing flies.  But when the fashionable feathers came along, their businesses were booming. But, what happens to the roosters after their feathers are plucked?!?! Nothing...they are then thrown into a pile (literally) and left for dead...only being used for their feathers, nothing more.  Many activists equate the feather crazy to the fur trend.  In my attempt to be a conscious consumer, I have researched feather alternatives. Here are a few feather wearing ideas below, without the guilt:
Forever 21 Tiered Feathers Earrings $3.80

Forever 21 Floating Feather Maxi $24.80

Forever 21 Crepe Feathers Button Up  $19.80

Target Scoop neck Button Front Dress $24.99

Target Bra Cup Challis Dress $24.99

Comfy Kicks

As a teacher I am on my feet about 6-8 hours a day.  That being said, I am obsessed with Dansko clogs...I have 6 pairs and love them all....I also used to wear them as a waitress.  Even if you are not on your feet, but want something comfortable that gives you a little lift and brightens up your toes you should definitely give them a try.  I have also rediscovered Eastland shoes.  I used to have them when I was little... think: brown loafers with yellow/brown rope-looking laces.  Both of these companies have been around forever and have quality, comfortable, stylish kicks that you can wear anywhere. They cost a little more, but they are shoes that you will have for the next 10 years (if not longer). Here are a few of my favorites:

Dansko Jute Pro

Dansko Rowena Sand Dollar
Tory in Vegan "Leather"

Eastland Seneca Camp Moc Chukka
Danskos

The Dansko Outlet ;)  (PA people--the actual outlet is in Chester County!)

Eastland (the images would not load well from this site, please check out their "Strap Happy" wedges)

Threads 4 Thought

I have finally found cute, affordable, durable, sustainable clothes! And where do you think I found these threads? Whole Foods! The t-shirts are only $10 and come in all colors. I especially like the v-necks.  The company uses organic cotton and polyester taken from recycled water bottles.

See Life in a Different Hue.

I discovered these a couple years ago when I got their tights as a Christmas present. But ever since jeggings came about I have also purchased a few of their leggings.  These are great because they aren't see through and they last more than one season....yes they are around $30-$40, but just think how many pairs of $10-$15 leggings you have purchased from Old Navy or Target that tear or fade. They also have real pockets! I got my black ones in October and I think I have worn them every weekend since. Although winter is almost over you will definitely be wearing these into the spring and even cool nights in the summer! Enjoy...
